Kane Williamson wins Sir Richard Hadley Award for fourth time

New Zealand captain and veteran batsman Kane Williamson has won the Sir Richard Hadlee Award for the fourth time, while young batsman Devon Conway has been named ODI and T20 Player of the Year at the New Zealand Cricket Awards 2020-21. The award winners were announced on Tuesday by New Zealand Cricket. In the women's section, young all-rounder Amelia Kerr won the Super Smash and T20 Player of the Year awards, while New Zealand women's cricket team captain Amy Satarthweight received the Women's ODI Player of the Year award.

Williamson was instrumental in New Zealand winning all four Tests of the four-match domestic Test series in the summer. He scored a career-best 251 against the West Indies in Hamilton and then scored another double century against Pakistan in Christchurch. His 639 runs in four innings ensured a place in the New Zealand World Test Championship final.

Williamson said in a conversation with Richard Headley on the phone on Tuesday after receiving the news of the award, "We are going to the Test Summer. The World Test Championship final is our goal and the team will have a real test here, although it is like going a long way. This is a much bigger goal than winning four Tests. It is a matter of pride for me personally to spend some time at the crease and contribute to the team personally as a team leader and player. "
