The stock market rebounded, the Sensex rose 661 points and the Nifty rose 194 points



On Tuesday, the BSE Sensex closed with a gain of 661 points due to buying by auto, banking and financial sector companies. After a dive of 1,708 points on Monday, the Sensex opened more than 100 points today and closed at 48,544.06 points with a gain of 660.68 points or 1.38 percent at the close of the market. The National Stock Exchange's Nifty also rose by 194 points to 14,504.80.


Investors also bought in medium and small companies. The BSE midcap was up 1.46 percent at 19,943.99 and the smallcap was up 1.21 percent at 20,805.48. Among Sensex companies, vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra's stock gained eight percent. The shares of Bajaj Finserv gained close to six and a half per cent, Bajaj Finance by five per cent and Maruti Suzuki by over four and a half per cent. The shares of IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, ONGC and Axis Bank also gained more than four percent. Shares of TCS and Dr. Reddy's Lab declined more than four percent.

 

The positive sentiments from abroad also strengthened the investment sentiment in the domestic market. In Asia, South Korea's Kospi closed up 1.07 per cent, Japan's Nikkei 0.72 per cent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng 0.15 per cent. China's Shanghai Composite broke 0.48 percent. Germany's DAX gained 0.31 per cent in early trade in Europe, while the UK's FTSE was down 0.07 per cent.
